Romantic conventions
There are many cliches in romantic films, one of the most commonly used story lines is that there is an ugly unpopular girl that tends to have a crush on the most popular guy in school. In the end she will end up getting a chance to go out and fall in love and live happily ever after.
When we think of the cliches we normally think of there being a lot of kissing, which is to be expected as it is a romantic film and is about love, there is normally a best friend that is weird or may even portray her best friend.
